Print profile - is this possible?
« on: June 24, 2011, 11:06:02 am »

I have been unable to create a profile that will do what I want - perhaps it's just not possible?

I want to make 1 print of the selected image on 16" roll paper (Epson 4880). I want the long dimension of the image to be printed across the width of the paper with 1/2 " margins - in other words, the long dimension will be printed 15" wide.

The short dimension of the image will vary depending on the camera and cropping. I want the profile to automatically set the paper size to match whatever this dimension is, plus 1/2" margins. So, if my image will be printed 15 x 10, the paper will be cut at a length of 11".  If the image is 15 x 14, it will be cut at a length of 15".

Is this possible? I'd even be happy with separate profiles for portrait and landscape orientation images.

It is possible, but this has nothing to do with printer profile.

Go into printer adjustment, and into Epson properties dialog. Select user defined paper type, then select 16 inch wide and 11 inch long.

When you get back to LR, the print module will show paper size as 16x11, but your cell will probably still be your old value. Adjust the cell to 15 x 10 and make sure it is centered. You may also need to modify image orientation (though in most cases LR adjusts this automatically)

Select the image and print. I would double check the printer page settings in print dialog which comes up when printing. I also always check print preview to verify that layout is correct (print preview colors are always off and should be ignored).

I do this kind of printing all the time, and if you have problem figuring this out, I can post screen shots on how to do this.
