Having difficulty printing on veneer

I am using the 3880 ink jet and running some print tests on maple wood veneer and am getting way too much running.  Is there a way to coat the veneer is such a way that ink jet will work?

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I have not tried it on wood, but I have had good results on other porous substrates with "inkAID clear matt solution.  Google it.

Is there any other product to coat the veneer?  I call all the reps for inkaid and all their numbers have been disconnected, really bad service!!!

I have used an Epson 4880 with their matte black cartridge.  For the most part, I have created custom profiles for each substrate.  Some take a little while to dry.
