3-2-1 Sigma SD1 Launch Price Coundown!
« on: May 25, 2011, 09:47:50 pm »

Since the whole agonizing SD1 pricing debacle has passed from the sublime into the ridiculous, let's take some action on what the street price will be when the camera hits the shores.   Given the drop in price between the announced list on launch day ($9,800) and the first dealer-advertised prices ($6,900), what do you say the *real* price will be....???

:D :D:D

Even at $1500, I'd rather have a sharp stick in the eye.

The sad thing is that, for around $2K, I was seriously considering it if the IQ was really good, because i need a mid-size utility SLR.

Why are people so love/hate about things?

Because a world where you either love or hate is much easier to manage than a world where you love and hate the same object ate the same time.
It resolves ambivalence ....

In this economy, pricing it higher than several entry-level DBs is insane.

I just don't get it how when times get harder economically, people actually *raise* prices on their crap, despite there being a huge slowdown in sales.  You see this the most in real estate.  Rental prices have never been higher despite there being no shortage of empty places in your typical corner mini-mall.

Truly shocking.  I know it doesn't cost Sigma $3000 for each sensor.  That has to be a 8-10x multiplier over their own cost.  Maybe more.  I bet you that they are going to sell a literal handful of these and then complain bitterly about it.  Well, everything has its price.  And this is simply too much for even the most loyal followers to swallow.

Just an attempt at humor.  :)

From my perspective I don't have a need for a mid size SLR, I'm invested in Canon glass, and my experience with Sigma glass has been less than desirable.  I'm sure it's a fine camera, it just wouldn't be on my radar at any price. The fact that it's pricing is so ludicrous just makes it a laughable camera, rather than a camera I'd never think about.
