Suddenly, I have 128 pages of unread posts. I check into this site at least daily so something is wrong. Any suggestions?

Have you recently cleared cookies on your machine?  It sounds like one of the cookies (the one that tracks the "last read" status) was either cleared or it was damaged and a fresh one was put in place.
