help finding 3/8" tripod screw
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:44:03 am »

Hello
does anyone know where I can obtain a 3/8" tripod screw that's about 1 and 1/2 " long.
most tripod screws seem to combine 3/8" and 1/4" and a full length 3/8" is proving hard to find.
(dont want to use an adaptor)

thanks

Ed

I've always managed to find what I needed on Ebay. Sometimes you can get stainless steel screws. You might need to hacksaw what's available down to a length that suits your need. Search for '3/8" Whitworth screw' or '3/8" BSW screw'

The folks at really right stuff have all those little pieces, and they are knowledgeable about what you need.

If I remember correctly, tripod screws/bolts are 3/8 - 20 (20 threads to the inch). Try going to a good hardware store (not Home Depot) where the help knows something about their stock and see what you can get, in the length that you need.
