Shimming Cambo WDS back plate for tilt
« on: March 09, 2011, 10:13:07 pm »

There has been a discussion here regarding shimming or adjusting the back plate of the Cambo Wrs to create up to 1 1/2 degrees of 'permanent' rear tilt. Does anyone know if it possible to make a similar adjustment on the WDS using the four painted screws on the back plate? I am using a 47xl and am seeking to increase dof for landscape work, without going to the expense (for now) of buying lenses in TS mounts. If this can work, I'll get a second back plate for 'non-tilt' work.

Jamie,
The Cambo is not based on shims.  The back plate is adjusted with the painted set-screws in each corner of the plate.  I can't imagine permanently adjusting those set-screws for a scheimpflug-like tilt to increase DoF.  Each photo would require a different adjustment angle, so you would have to create an "average" adjustment, which I think would give "average" results.

Thanks, but Im still curious. If the majority of my use of the Cambo is for landscape use where I am seeking to maximize depth of field, and I'm limited by diffraction to f11, a small amount (1-2*) of 'permanent' tilt may not be such a bad thing. Granted, infinity focus may have to be recalibrated once tilt is set, since the tilt is not being made at the center line of the lens and therefor the lens is moving away from the sensor plane.

My question remains: can the set screws be used to establish rear tilt of 1-2 degrees, and is this a  just plain bad idea?

Thanks
