I have had one lock up on me after I pulled it out of a card reader following file deletions (so no data lost). My friendly dealer replaced it without question. Otherwise, I regularly use two (for nearly a year now) without any problems.

I have 4 1GB Microdrives and have used them for upwards of 3 years without a single problem. They've been in Death Valley at 125 degrees and in Quebec at -30 degrees. They also been used in the Sierra mountains at nearly 13,000 feet and in 100% humidity of the jungles of Costa Rica.

At under $200 for a 1GB drive they are the best value in storage right now.

you guys are really fast thanks for the replies!!

I also meant to ask whether it makes sense to spend the extra bucks on the ULTRA CFcards, which are advertised as being faster accessible for storage, and whether the microdrives have the same or faster storage speed especially if looking as the prize difference of 240$ vs 189$ respectively...

does anybody have any extensive experience with IBM 1GB microdrives, especially regarding malfunction in the field while saving images, corrupted files etc.

I don't own an IBM manufactured microdrive, but my Microtek microdrive (not sure who manufactures the inner parts, probably Toshiba) has worked great for over 18 months.

I've never had it lock-up, lose data, ... no problems.

I also have had 4 microdrives for 3 months with no problems; have taken nearly 8000 frames with my 1Ds.
