Undesired cropping by LR3 Print Module
« on: November 19, 2010, 02:39:21 pm »

I've recently found that when I print from LR3 to my Epson 7800, one side of my image is being cropped by the printer or by LR. The image prints with
about 1/2"  (on a 17 x 22") cropped off of the right of a landscape format print, resulting in an off-center image on the paper. The margins are set to equal, both in LR and in Page Setup (Mac).

Has anyone encountered and solved this issue?

Thanks

What is the image size you're trying to print?

That seems normal : on a 17x22 sheet with 1" margins, the image cell is 15x20" and therefore hasn't the same aspect ratio as 17x22.

Niko,

No, that is not the problem. What you are describing is a proportional resizing to fit the image within the margins, or if selected, an equal crop of the image to fit the page proportions. My problem is a cropping of one side of the image, resulting in an off-center image on the page. Everthing looks correct in the print window, but it doesn't print that way.

Does it happen only with LR?  What are the margins you have set up? The minimum bottom margin for sheet paper is .56", unlike the other 3 sides which is .12" ... are your margins larger than that?

Wayne,
If I am printing a landscape format image, w/ horiz. format set in Page Setup, I have right and left margins set at .13 in LR. I'll pull my cell size in from there, to establish an image width in the print of 21.5", centered. When the image prints, however, the image width is coming out at 21" (or so), with the image cropped off the at right side, and an extra margin on the paper where the crop occurred, so the image is not centered as it should be.

You say that the "right side" of a landscape print is cropped.  Are you printing on sheet paper or roll paper?  If sheet paper, is the "right side" the last side out of the printer?  If so, you are losing the last 1/2 inch to the printer feed mechanism.  You must have at least 1/2 inch margin at the end of the paper.

If you are using roll paper, I have no idea, but suspect the printer driver.

Alan,
I suspect that you are right, and I'll check tomorrow when I am back at the studio. I am describing a problem that occurs when using sheet media, and the leading edge prints to the desired margin (which is less than 1/2") but the trailing edge doesn't. I'll set my margins to 1/2" and see what happens.
Thanks

OK, I understand better now (sorry, I'm blonde).
That could seem like a driver proposing a narrower margin than the printer is actually capable of at the trailing edge? How's about setting larger margins?

I just encountered a similar problem with my 3880.  I'm trying to print some folio prints out on 8 1/2 x 11 paper and ended up with a print that was not centered. :(  I suspect the problem may be with the Epson driver but can't figure out a way to circumvent it.  The print appears dead center in LR with the correct margins but when it prints (landscape mode) the left margin is 1/2 inch as set but the right margin (the end coming out of the printer) is 5/8 inch.  This is from the rear feeder using Museo Portfolio Rag.  When I use Epson Ultra Premium Matte paper that can go through the sheet feeder the margins are the correct 1/2 inch as set in LR.  So with the Museo paper, my image is getting chopped off on the right side by a small amount.  This appears to be the same issue as the original poster.  After puzzling and wasting about 8 sheets of paper, I did what I should have done in the first place and went to Eric Chan's 3800 site (thanks Eric).  It turns out that for some reason, Epson has a special setting for Ultra Smooth Fine Art media and this needs to be set.  Mystery solved and now I can continue printing.  The original poster does not say what he was printing on and I don't know if the 7800 driver has a similar quirk but it's worth looking at.
