Price seems on the high side, if this rumour is to be believed... but wait and see.
I wouldn't be willing to pay more than a DSLR for a compact, but this one seems well made.

That's a pretty bold move. Sigma and Ricoh seem to dominate the fixed focal length P&S - the fact there apparently is a market for those gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I think that's a problem with all non-interchangeable lens cameras, particularly if they perform well: the frustration of not being able to expand them would be worse that not having them at all. Oh, then they could sell you fixed lens cameras in different focal lengths... cunning.

I've always thought Leica should pursue the hybrid viewfinder concept.  I think there is a future in the idea.  For all I know they have been working on such.  But I wonder now if this Fuji concept won't find its way into some high end cameras in the future, perhaps even a Leica.  Seems like one way to rejuvenate the M camera. Or one way for a new player to create the next state-of-the-art compact.

They should hire guys coming from the hifi world... we would have more signature/special edition models with real world value as opposed to Ferrari red Hassy bodies.

Aye, there certainly is.  This brings to mind how many years I carried 2-3 OM-1n/Om-3ti bodies with small high quality primes loaded with different films.  Until Canon came out with their C1, C2, C3 settings it was always much faster to switch cameras than settings.. but it's pretty rough carrying 3 modern DSLR's..

This X100 is intriguing.  But then I like my NEX-5 and am looking forward to their next firmware upgrade.

Bernard, someone said before somewhere in this forum (can't remember the link) that if things going this way, the MFD expensive brands will be targeting to survive, not only the wealphy, perfectionist and hairy photographer, but the executive, entrepreneur, etc... in such for new expensive gadgetery for prestige and image.

The Ferrari edition responds perfectly to these new-rich targets.

I wonder how people can take these products out in public; do you remember track suits with José Banús writ large on the chest and down the legs?
