That would explain his absence. That is a shame.  I liked Gabor.  He'll be missed.

I too will miss him. He was very knowledgeable and very generous with technical information. This is very sad.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Gabor's untimely demise. I had a number of collaborations with him and learned much and found him to be a true gentleman. Not mentioned thus far in this thread is what will happen to his very useful utility, Rawnalize. I hope someone will take over its continued development, since it was IMHO the best means to quickly check exposure and the channels of raw files.

Gabor was a teacher to me, I learned so many things from him both about photography and life.
He was very talented, very dedicated, an amazing photographer and a great guy. He was always there to answer my most silly questions. I don't know how many people he helped but it must really be a lot.
I'm shocked to know this and very sad.

Rest in peace my friend.

Very sad. We had discussions regarding the 5D Mark II's ISO 50 setting when it first came out, and he was very informative and helpful. He will indeed be missed. May he rest in peace.

He was a Gentleman.
He always answer and help me all times i asked his advises.
I noticed his absence on forums (especially dpreview and here)
and after some emails I wrote him without answer, i opened a thread on dpreview forum and a kind user (Andre) spoke with the daughter of Gabor (Gabriel)

I am very sad, i would had liked very very much to know him of person.
He was a great engineer, photographer and especially a great and kind man.

What a shock and how sad! I had noticed that Gabor had not posted on this forum for a while. I'd sometimes wondered why. Perhaps a shift in interests or a change in priorities. There can be many reasons why people cease to post on a particular forum. Perhaps they got married, are moving house, have a new job with lots of overtime. Or perhaps someone just leaves a site in a huff because he believes his professional integrity has been besmirched.

Whatever the reason, the last one that comes to mind is the possibility that the person has died.

I enjoyed the many stimulating discussions and arguments I had with Gabor. I sometimes emailed him RAW 5D files for him to analyze. He would occasionally advise me an image was overexposed (despite ACR's indication it wasn't) and ask for another image with a lower exposure.

He was very dedicated to the technical side of digital imaging and I'll miss him, and his input and opinions on such matters.

My condolences to Gabor's family. We share your grief.
