That's how big the smallest free-standing post office in America is.

I have driven by this little post office so many times on my way to and from Everglades City to go fishing.  I had thought about photographing it many times, but could never really imagine an approach.  Forget it, I thought, there are probably enough pictures of it already.

And then I built a pinhole camera, the "Un-Leica 67", as I like to call it.  Finally, I had the right tool for what seemed like an impossible task of capturing the smallness and vintage of The Little Post Office That Could.  It's been a post office since 1953, when the "real" post office burned to the ground.  I think it was used as a storage shed before being commandeered by the USPS.

I think I will print this photo postcard-sized, and mail it to myself from that post office.  Full circle.

Delightful!

And excellent use of "appropriate technology."

Claire

This is a lovely print. I thought as soon as I looked at it that it must be pinhole. I really like the idea of mailing a postcard of this shot from the post office. How about a whole series of different PO shots on the pinhole, each one mailed to yourself, and then frame each one in its stamped and franked form? The ultimate limited edition!

Great mood!  Please, please:  try a gentle sepia tone conversion with it!

I think that's an excellent suggestion.

Great shot. The vignetting works well here. Not sure I agree with adding a sepia tone. I like it the way it is.
