Timo, a wonderful moody capture of the last light. But I often wonder, with such beautiful light at sunrise and sunset, why people choose to convert to BW. Just a thought, not a criticism. I guess each format has its qualities.

Another superb "classic Timo."

In my not-so-humble opinion, black-and-white is often much more effective than color, partly because it leaves more to the imagination of the viewer.

And, Timo, although your recent color images have been nice, it seems to me that you really have the feel for B&W.

Fabulous!  The soft curve in the rocks on the left  and the fuzzy water surface initialy made me think of a Tuscanian landscape…
I don't know how if it would as effective in color but I like it as it is.

I think removing colour John leaves the bare bones of an image exposed.... the shapes, textures, composition and tonality; and then we respond to the interplay between these elements without referencing in our minds a memory of an event in which we can identify in real life.

Both versions are beautiful, but the B&W is what catches my eye.  It just has a more moody and mystical feel.

I agree. The color one is superb, too, but I'd still pick the B&W, and for the same reasons.

Maybe so Francois, but I had a feeling the colour image was spectacular, and to me it has more nuances, that the BW cannot convey. But of course, as viewers, we would never have known this because the BW is also very good in its own right. In the end, does it matter? The artist chooses what medium to convey his image.

I agree 100% with your last sentence. I might had a different opinion if Timo posted the color image first. Both the color and the B/W versions are fantastic and I'd be proud to have either on my wall.

Yes! The color version does not have the mystical feel that makes this photograph so interesting to me.
