v5.1 trash problem
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:19:00 pm »

When I trash a file, whether with delete, ctrl-delete or by clicking the trashcan, it's going away for good, not to the recycle bin (which I have set as the trash folder).  What am I doing wrong?  Win XP SP2.

C1 trash is only a session trash, so it should be sitting inside the trash folder of whatever session you were using.  To permanently trash those files, you drag them from there to system trash if you're sure you want it permanently gone.

My standard (and only) "session" has Trash pointed at the Recycle Bin.  And when I open the Trash folder in the C1 browser, it's the Recycle Bin that gets opened.  But it's not putting the trashed files there... it's putting them somewhere far, far way.  :-(

If you are on Mac, your default session is located in users/username/pictures/Capture One Library.  If you click on that folder you should see 6 folders inside and one should be labelled "Trash."  Do me a favor and click on that and see if your trashed files are all sitting there.  THis is where a CMD+Del will push selected files.  Now you also have the option of Opt+Cmd+Del which will move the selected file to your system trash.  Finally you have the option under File>Delete Session Trash, which will permanently delete session trash.

Unfortunately if you are on a PC these commands may be slightly different and I am of zero help there --- sorry.

I'm on a PC but it's similar and I do have such a folder.  There's no Trash folder in it though, just Move To and Output.  Nothing in those.

The session Library tree shows Trash pointed at the Recycle Bin.

Oh well, if we can't solve that one, how about this one:

How do I force C1 to reread the source folder and regenerate the previews?  I deleted and renamed some files outside of C1 after it had scanned the folder, and it keeps loading the old previews, i.e., the ones that belonged to the files that previously had those names, not the ones that have them now.

Thanks,

Nill

p.s.  Hmmm... maybe delete those proxies?

p.p.s.  Looks like I have to delete the .cos files in the Settings50 folder also.  Surely there's an easier way to do this...

Just nuke the entire "Capture One" folder located inside the source folder in question -- it will re-generate itself the next time you browse to it from the C1 browser it.  Note you WILL lose all previously applied settings if you do this.

OK thanks.  Speaking of which, can I delete the Cache folder to save space, but keep the Settings50 folder and thus preserve my settings for each image?

Yes, but I don't advise it --- it isn't really that big and will slow down the opens as it will regenerate the cache next time you open that folder anyway.  Note that in C1 prefs, you can set preview size smaller to save time and size...

OK and thanks again Jack.  I really appreciate all the help you and others here have given me on this transition to the new version.

As Jack has mentioned, Capture One has a default session and corresponding session Trash. I'm using a Mac as well so, I can't comment on where the default location for the default session Trash should be on the PC. Perhaps, the manual might say?

If you don't have this default Trash folder is it possible you may have deleted this by accident?

As well, each time you create a new session a trash folder should be created inside that session's folder.

In any event, if for whatever reason this is not happening then you might consider trying to manually set the Trash folder location:

• If your Trash folder has gone "missing" then first create a folder for trashed images in the relevant session folder (name it as you feel appropriate). Note, it's likely best to this in Capture One's Library tab.

• One can designate/set a folder as the Session Trash folder by control clicking (Mac keyboard shortcut) on the appropriate in Capture One's Library tab.  Or by selecting that folder in the Library tab and choosing the File -> "Set as Session Trash Folder" menu item.

• Then give it a whirl on a test/trashable image.

On a mac you can right click on any folder in C1 Pro and make it the Session Trash.  I make a session trash folder inside the working capture folder so that the trashed files never get very far away from the rest of the RAW files.

Are you able to find the images you've sent to the trash?  If not, then in C1, in the Library tool tab, go to the Session Folders, right click on the Trash Folder, and select "Show in Library".

As mentioned earlier, when one makes an new session a corresponding Trash folder gets created in the session folder. So, perhaps if you created a session for each working situation, day, or project, ect.  you could alleviate the need for making a session trash folder manually?

Though the ability to designate any folder as a Capture, Move To, or Output folder can be useful.
