New Sigma Lenses

Sigma went apeshit with new lens releases today.  The 50-500, already bigger than your typical WWII U boat, now has OS.  They also have some funky new glass (FLD) that is supposed to be cheaper to make than regular flourite elements (and lighter, too).  Other notables - a 8-16 lens, 70-200 f2.8 with FLD elements and OS, 17-50 with FLD elements and OS, 85mm f1.4...

The 85 f1.4 is really intriguing.  I wonder how much it will cost and how it will compare to the Canon 1.2L version.

yea; that is the one that caught my interest. Hopefully it will auto focus a bit better than the 50f1.4 and have a bit less CA then some of the alternatives. Probably will be expensive - my guess is $800 or $900 based on the 50's price.

Bah, still no 200-400 f4 or similar !

I really want a longer, fixed focal length/reasonably fast zoom for canon, similar to the nikon one.  (for travel)

I'm really curious to see if this 50-500mm is better than decent at 500. If Sigma can make this at least very good at the long end I think it will do very well. I'm going to guess that since the OS has been introduced that a lot of people who tend to handhold these sorts of lenses will be getting better sharpness. I'm assuming that this OS will support tripod shooting. I would be very interested in testing this lens out.

I bought the Canon 85L a few months ago, and the whole time I kept wishing that Sigma made an 85mm f1.4 that was as lovely as their 50mm f1.4 (which I have).  If this turns out to be as nice as the 50, I'm buying it, because as much as I love the 85L, I could really use something that focuses faster.

the 85 does look nice....compact, a crisp 1.4 is better then a soft 1.2....as long as the look is good....i really like my sigma 50 but had to check out 3 copies before i found one that was perfect....CA was bad on the other 2.....i use the 50 when i need to shoot wide open and still need sharpness...nothing beats the sigma for that....if the 85 is similar, i will get it as well....build/touch quality is outstanding btw.....better then canon? at least as good...

Has anyone tried the 50-500 OS? How does it look at the 500 end?
