Considering the Kiboko myself and just did check with Gura Gear if there are any new distribution partners for Europe, but there aren´t.

Concerning the shipping cost: During the order procedure on Gura Gear's site you can select "USPS" which will "only" cost 55$ for shipping. Was a bit shocked about the UPS fee as well at first.

I don't own a Kiboko. It's a bit too large for my gear but I understand that the central divider is attached with velcro and it would be possible to place a laptop across the two vertical sections.
It's a far from optimal solution…
How about contacting Andy Biggs to see if he has a solution for the Kiboko and a future product that might fit your needs.

Regarding the French reseller: the advantage is that you might be able to return it if you're not pleased with the bag. Returning a bag to the US from Europe would easily cost an arm and a leg.

Well, I got the answer by GuraGear that they do not have any official resellers at the moment. So, that French retailer's price could be explained by the fact that they just order the way everyone else does and up the price accordingly?

The laptop issue has come to my mind as well, but since I think I would be able to fit almost everything I need to carry in the Kiboko, a small laptop sleeve as a personal item when boarding the plane would do it. As I read somewhere in a comment by Andy Biggs, the sacrifices in terms of general usability made when adapting the bag to hold a laptop would probably be far too big.

Shipping the bag back to the states would probably cost a few bucks, but I think that it will still be worth it for me. The only thing I wonder is if I get the tax paid back by the state after I returned the bag?

the bag is good but If I cannot put a laptop in it and considering the price (including shipping) , I shall not take it

I got their answer

At this time we don't have a laptop compartment, primarily because the extra weight in the bag would necessitate beefing up all of the materials and stitching, which ironically would add more weight. It takes more weight to be able to carry more weight.

I got one from Gura Gear a little over a year ago and it is the best back pack solution that I have yet tried. I also always travel with a 17 Macbook but just carry it in a light slip case. I find it the most comfortable when hiking and the ability to store the straps when not in use is excellent.

I too bought a Kiboko about 12 months ago and it is excellent. I travelled around the UK, Spain & Portugal last year with no problems or attention paid to it at any airport. My 15" MacBookPro was carried on board in a dedicated case/sleeve as my personal item. Just to confirm, the central divider is fixed, so there is no way to fit a normal laptop inside.

It is by far the best backpack style camera bag I have owned.

There are six female compression strap fasteners that can be pulled out of their hidey-holes and used to attach a laptop sleeve to the back of the pack.  This would satisfy the "one bag" rule to get it on the plane.
Perhaps Andy could be talked into making the corresponding male fasteners available to people who wish to make these modifications.

yes but all the content of the bag is necessary for photo gear , the laptop could be in another place like in the Kata HB-207

I also don't understand why  money and identity papers are outside and not in your back where are the belts ... nothing is perfect but it seems that it could nearly be in that case

Laptop attached via straps in slip case will turn it into 'one bag' to keep airlines sufficiently happy.  Its its 'attached' and you can carry it in one hand as a bag, they dont' seem to care.  Weight of coruse, is a different problem.

Also, laptop in a simple slipcase will fit in inside pocket of Domke Photo Vest just fine.   (I use a 13" laptop, but a 15 also fits, just a bit heavy).

I fly across the world a fair bit, and nowdays NEVER travel without wearing my photo-vest, it is a godsend for so many reasons.   Dosn't matter if its a phot trip, or business (though normally I always carry camera gear).

I've been eyeing off the Kiboko for some time.  I currently use a thinktank Airport international, which is good, but I think the Kiboko could be even better for being both travel, and shooting backpack.

Regards

Mark.

I am also using a ThinkTank airport (and a ThinkTank Laptop bag)  and I think too that I could do all with a Kiboko, the ThinkTank airport is too big for RyanAir in Europe :-(

I have to sell  my Kata HB-207 + ThinkTank Airport ...

Actually it is normally one free bag PLUS one personal item... and a laptop, or camera qualifies as the personal item. Certainly the case with Qantas!

Hi,

No, it's not fixed. It's fastened with Velcro (at least on mine GG Kiboko).

The Kiboko works for me. It does fit in the overhead bins on Canadair regional jets I have flewn with (CR 200 and CR 700?). It's a tight fit so I empty all pockets and put the contents inside the bag.

Having a photo west is a bright idea, saved me once in Stockholm (Sweden) flying to US, I was within Delta wight regulations but the connection from Sweden was by KLM. Put camera body and 24-70/2.8 into my pockets, and it was OK.

A MacBook 13.3" fits easily in the inside pocket of Domke west I have. Great!

Best regards
Erik
