DIY micro lens
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:33:14 am »

This week I bought an old 70-210 for a few euro's and took it apart, because it was broken.
I played with the parts and found that the front two pieces of glass make an excellent micro lens when stuck in front of my 18-135. I first tried it handheld, but then I wanted it stuck on there without any drilling or modifying. So I came up with this:

A can for nuts. I cut off the edge and centered the parts of the old lens, stuck it on the reversed lenshood. Works like a charm and doesn't slide off.
Here's a link to some pictures I took with it:

Question: I measured that if I shoot as close as possible, I get 12mm vertical. Given the fact that magnification and focal length are in 35mm, I figure that I get a magnification of 2:1, because a FF is 35x24, so 12 is half of 24, right?
My camera is a D90, so I don't understand how to convert this in APS-C format. Do you multiply or divide the 2 of 2:1?
Thanks for your attention!
