LumiQuest Flash Accessories
« on: December 22, 2009, 03:53:10 pm »

Hi All,

Henry's seems to be the dealer for LumiQuest products, but is anyone else selling it for price comparisons in Toronto? I'm leaving the country soon so I'm looking for a Brick and Mortar store.

Specifically I'm thinking of getting a Softbox III for my 580EXII on a 5dMkII. anyone use this combo or have advice? are the other softboxes as good?

- Mike

I am very fond of their softbox.  I have had great luck with some dramatic portraits using that softbox on my 430 EX with an off camera hotshoe cord.  I hold the flash in one hand and the camera in the other. It looks awkward, but it works very well.  I also found that this softbox works best for closeup portraits--flash held about a foot away from the shadow side of (or slightly below) the subject's face with camera about two feet away.  Eye color comes through amazingly with that configuration.

If you going to use SB-III I'd recommend taking a look at this test: LumiQuest Softbox III test
The light quality differs depending on the flash zoom settings.
Here are two extreme examples:
