MACBOOK PRO 13"
« on: December 19, 2009, 04:10:56 pm »

I have the oportunity to trade my 9 months old macbook PRO 15" (2,4 GHz and 7200 HD)for a new 13" and a small amount of cash...

Better for me to use a 13" in the field, but are these smaller ones as good as the 15" ?
7200 rpm are not available for it... too much heat ?
Shall i go for the cheaper one or the faster one ?
SSD ?

I will use leaf capture.

Thanks

I'd probably hold onto the older 15" - more screen real-estate is gold to me, even in the field.

I recently sold my aluminum Macbook Pro 2.4GHz 13" and bought aluminum 2.8GHz 17".
I use/d both 13" and 17" with 8Gb of memory and SSD installed.

Performance difference IS minimal.
13" is lighter and smaller.
The 13" has one fan and can get very hot and ever freeze in warm climate, while 17" has two fans and never stops.
Both have very long batteries, the 17" is a bit longer. I think MFDBs draw too much power from FireWire, so it's better to connect Macbook to a power outlet for a long tethered work.

I have the 13" for travel and the 17" when at home.  The smaller screen is sometimes a little challenging, but I like the weight.  I installed a 500gb 7200 drive in mine and have had no problems.

I'd get the faster one. I"m probably going to put a SSD drive in the DvD slot of mine.

The 13" has one fan and can get very hot

is the faster one going to be hotter or is it the opposite ?

For architecture in the city, the size difference between the 15" and the 13" makes a big difference... when i bought the 15 there was no 13... it arrives two weeks later rggrgr !

by the way, no matte screen for the 13" in the future ?

I remenber a site that provides an history of mac updates, and rumors for the next models... i can't find it ?

The 13" 2.4GHz is hotter than 2.8GHz 17".
