Yes, that's possible. Let the buyer beware.

When in doubt, don't buy it. Whether you're an amateur or pro, especially a pro, you need to be able to have confidence in your equipment. Magicstore might be an ok company, but I've never heard of em.

The Magicstor is NOT an IBM/Hitachi drive.

Do not buy it. Stick with the reliable product. I have 4 1GB microdrives and no trouble. As soon as the new Hitachi 2GB version ships I'll be right on it.

Because I've seen cautionary posts as well as trouble reports about the people who make the Magicstor. I'd sure rather deal with IBM/Hitachi on a defective product than some fly by night company located somewhere in Asia.

Magicstor's website makes it quite clear where they are located and to what standards they operate. The IBM/Hitachi microdrives are also made 'somewhere in Asia' (Taiwan I believe).

I am seeing this 2.2GB drive on discount websites a lot, for just a bit more than the IBM 1GB microdrive: http://www.gs-magicstor.com/english/products-E/index.htm

Anyone have any experience with this brand of drive? I notice that they do make a point on the drive itself to grasp it by the corners, not the face, which might mean it's not got as much protections against pressure as the IBM/Hitachi microdrives.

I have no experience of these drives, but I have had problems with the IBM microdrives. The advice packaged with the IBM microdrives is exactly the same i.e. grasp by the edges, not the flat surfaces. It seems a bit hard to rubbish a product just because you have'nt heard of it before.

Well dbartel, It does not change what I said. I have had one IBM 1GB microdrive lock up on me completely and another which has a tendency to corrupt files if the camera gets bumped around. All manufacturers have to start with their products somewhere. I totally fail to see how you can be so dogmatic.

I had to send in an IBM micro drive after 10 uses because it failed. After that I have been using IBM microdrives for hundreds of uses with no event at all. It is normal for the vast majority of people to be afraid of what they don´t know, but what would have been of science and mankind if it wasn´t for those who did venture into unknown territories?

There´s only one way to know.

Sample of one does not make your case. They seem to be very negative on microdrives in general.
