4X5 view camera VS Alpa XY for stitching with a HD39
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:43:01 am »

This may seem like an obvious question but is there any difference between using an Alpa XY or a 4x5 view camera for stitching?
I need to shoot a piece of art 4'x8' with a HD39 back either I use the TS adapter or a 4x5 or an Alpa.
Any observations would be welcome.
thanks

¿How long is a piece of string?

This depends on the lenses more that the bodies, but any glass T/S adaptor is a "budget" light weight tool to use when you have not got, or do not want to carry a view camera.

I would say that, if you have a view camera, and a suitable lens, use it.

What pixel dimensions is your back, and what pxs do you want in the file?

Are you contemplating one or two row stitch or what, and has the lens got the image circle required?

Do you have a sliding stitching back for the view camera, or are you going to use (rear) shift?

You may find that you do not have sufficient image circle with any digital specialist lens, and you need to use a Large Format film lens and stitch four times as many pixels as you want, and down res to the required pixel dimensions.
