Epson Pro 3800 driver for Mac??
« on: August 12, 2009, 03:31:52 pm »

The US site offers version 6.11, which is older than a New Zealand verion 6.57.  Does anyone know if one is better than the other or what the difference is?

The new driver for the 3800 may be the equivalent to the new driver for the 7880 for which the numbers are versions 6.12 and 6.55. That is available also only on the UK, Australian and New Zealand Epson sites. I downloaded it recently and because ABW did not work with version 6.12 (as acknowledged by Epson), and the newer driver does. There are a few very minor differences otherwise. No problems with the new driver, in case of the 7880, and the ABW functionality is a big plus.

I have now the printer twice in the dialogue box, with either driver, but will delete the one with the old driver.

Thanks.  I have both drivers now as well, and may delete 6.11 at some point.  I had no problems with ABW with 6.11 on the 3800. I find it surprising that Epson never updates the driver.  You'd think there would be something to improve upon; however, I haven't had any problems with the driver, so I guess if it ain't broken, don't fix it?

I forgot to mention that the ABW issue with the older 7880 driver was for CS4. ABW is fine in CS2. Also, this may have been a problem only in the Mac and not in PC.

Only a problem under OS X and only with CS4 (CS3 and before doesn't have the issue, nor does Windows).
