Tree
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:13:31 pm »

I've been driving past this tree for the last 5 years and have watched it grow from a sapling on top of the post
Strange how it's trunk has now fully engulfed the post. Note on the middle post another sapling has started
Mountain road (250) Kohala, Big Island, Hawaii

Thanks, that's neat. It would be even neater to see that growth in time lapse, but doing that over 5 years would one hell of a commitment.

Agree with Robert, keep following it and in 5 years there will be two fully engolfed posts.

Btw, I really like the first picture, the similar mirror image shape between the sky and the dark foreground grass with the lighter grass triangle with the tree in the middle is a very effective and simple composition that I enjoyed looking at.

I'll put that on my calendar for June 27th 2014! Thank god for zoom lenses, I crawled under a barbed wire fence then moved around and zoomed in and out until I saw a pleasing composition, didn't have to crop at all.
Thanks

Be careful you don't get too close to it, Marc. You never know what else the thing might want to eat besides posts!
