HP driver problem on Mac
« on: May 08, 2009, 09:29:55 am »

Surely MacOSX Leopard, Photoshop CS4 and a professional LF printer would work great in a Colour Managed setup?

Not necessarily.

First it was the Epson printer drivers that started to fail in the above system setup:

Then Canon printer drivers:

And I can now report a failing HP printer driver.

I have been experimenting with QTR B&W profile creation for my Z3200. (I am not using the QTR RIP). I have attempted to disable colour management both within Photoshop and the printer driver and print the QTR 21x4 test chart for measuring with an Eye One Pro. However the chart looks very different depending on various combinations of software.

B&W test chart appearance 1:
MacOSX Leopard + Photoshop CS1 + Z3200
Windows Xp + Photoshop CS2 + Z3200

B&W test chart appearance 2:
MacOSX Leopard + Photoshop CS4 + Z3200

I have produced a very nice linear B&W profile with the Mac Photoshop CS1 chart and when printing with Mac Photoshop CS1. However the CS1 profile doesn't work with CS4. I have also been unable to produce a linear profile with Mac Photoshop CS4.

Anyone else struggling in this way with the Z3100 or Z3200?

All the latest Canon driver work correctly, at least the iPF series.

"However the CS1 profile doesn't work with CS4." You can always use the ColorSync Utility workaround.
