Promaster or Tiffen UV filter ?
« on: May 18, 2004, 07:30:32 pm »

I'd prefer the Tiffen brand over the (store?  private label?) Promaster brand, but I'd toss both and buy a HOYA super-multicoated UV(0) filter from www.2filters.com.  They're VERY high quality and not too expensive.

Promaster or Tiffen UV filter ?

I would junk them both.

Use a good lens shade and/or lens cap for "protection."  It doesn't take much lens flare to make a great lens mediocre or less.  UV filters, especially cheap poorly coated ones, are great sources of flare.  They sit right out in front to reflect stray light into the camera.

A good quality multicoated camera lens acts as a pretty good UV filter without additional help.

Promaster or Tiffen UV filter ?

My new used camera came with both a Promaster multicoated UV filter and a Tiffen UV protector.  Is one better then the other, are they both OK, are they both junk?

Thanks for the help.

Sorry I ment to put this in the equipment form, don't know how to delete.
