Interesting propositions
« on: March 23, 2009, 05:45:23 pm »

Digital Transitions sent me this in the mail -probably others got the same mail-

With Leaf lowering prices and using Mamiya for bundles, now Phase is pushing Hasselblad head on. Are we seeing a rush to maintain or capture new market share from major players or this is not unusual garden variaty promo. form DT?

(Disclosure: by talking about this offer I am not stating that it is good or bad. Only that I saw it and wanted to read your opinion by pure curiosity)

So theyll give you standard market value for h2 and slightly better on an h1. I doubt theyll win any one over with that.

If that's their strategy for meeting Hasselblad head on from a pricing standpoint, they should fire the guy running their sales campaign.

To me it fails from another point of view. They are encouraging people to drop a leaf shutter system for a focal plane shutter. Chances are that people who bought the 'Blad wanted a leaf shutter.

Hasselblad is forcing H 1 H 2 users in to a dead end hoping that they change systems in to their new incompatible one, so probably competitors are perceiving a week point in this transition and want to point them in the direction of a Phase.

For some H1 and H2 is just part of their system since they use Phase, Leaf or Sinar back, so they think: "what is more important to me, the capture device or the platform system?"

Mamiya announced just one prototype leaf shutter lens six months ago. No news since then. That's not going to make a difference to anyone.

Phase One really needs to keep a low profile w.r.t. cameras until they have their new camera ready with the leaf shutter lenses. This is not an offer which I expect will meet with much demand.

Hmm...  I guess it all depends on how they price the refurbed P45+, now doesn't it?
