Random mode in Slideshow bug
« on: March 20, 2009, 01:01:20 pm »

This is not the same bug as having the slideshow reset to the first slide. That bug is solved by generating 1:1 previews. Forcing 1:1 previews does not solve my issue.

When previewing or running a slideshow in random mode, the main image will indeed be selected at random from a collection, however the filmstrip thumbnail (or the grid view on a secondary monitor) will increment to the next slide IN ORDER. Therefore LR is running two slideshows at the same time: a random one in the preview or main screen image, and a non-random-in-order slideshow in the filmstrip/grid view.

This means that the selected thumbnail in filmstrip/grid view(2nd monitor) after the first slide becomes out of sync. If one wants to pause the slideshow and find that particular image and nearby images one has to have a 2nd monitor set to grid mode and search by the image file name (the image name has to be displayed in "info" during the slide show to be able to know what to type in to do the search).

Then after the 2nd monitor has found the exact filename in grid mode the filename search criteria can be deleted and one gets all the photos in the collection back with the paused slide selected. At that point the nearby shots can be evaluated in compare or grid mode as usual.

In version 1.X the random mode and the filmstrip thumbnail tracked each other, the filmstrip skipping around ALSO in random mode. When I went to ver 2.1 to ver 2.3 this issue has cropped up and never been resolved.
