EOS Utility and Capture One pro 4 Canon 5Dm2 Trouble

Hi,

I have been having trouble capturing directly into CO Pro 4 with my Canon 5dm2.  I'm not sure if it's a sequence thing or not.  I'm using a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.6, CO Pro 4.6 and EOS utility 2.5.1.1  I have been able to capture at times but the program seems real fussy about connecting to EOS Utility.  I think the problem may be when I turn the camera on Capture One tries to high jack the camera to try to download images.  when I open EOS utility it cannot connect for some reason.  Does anybody know how to keep Capture One from opening up when I either hook a camera up to it or when I plug my flash card reader into the computer?  I don't know if this makes since?  All cords are new for the camera and seem to work with DPP.

I had the same trouble when using Aperture and would also be interested if anyone has a smart solution for this.

I ended up using this ugly solution: Locate EOS Utility in the Program-folder. Archive it to a .ZIP-file and throw away (!) the original program. Now try connect your camera.
(And when you need EOS Utility you unzip the archive, but leave the .ZIP-file so you can throw away the software again when you need to.)

Hi Petter,

I actually need to use the canon utility to shoot directly into the capture one program.  I'm sure they will eventually add support for my camera and then I should be able just to use the Capture One Pro software.  But until then I need to use some work around.  I can use Canon's program to capture to but I just like the Capture One program so much more.  Thanks for the tips though and if you hear anything I would appreciate any info you find.

Sorry John, I read your post a little to fast.

I'm also waiting for another software to be able to shoot directly with 5DII. I've tried Aperture and EOS Utility together (Aperture was watching a folder), it works but it is soooo slow.

Yes slow transfer of images has been a hot topic.  Have you upgraded to Leopard 10.5.6 it seems to help the speed a great deal.  I wish Canon would have not gone away for firewire.  I think you can also shoot into Adobe Lightroom also.  I just have been a fan of capture one and want to continue using it.  Thanks for your help.

Ok Gang,

I think I may have figured this out.  Here's the sequence that seems to work.

1.  Turn camera on and let Capture One highjack the camera.  (at this point if you turn on EOS utility you will get the error message)

2. Leave camera on and close the Capture One program.

3. Launch EOS Utility and it should come up normally and show all the camera controls.

4. Open capture one pro 4 and enable the hot folder feature on what ever folder your shooting to.

5. Make sure you set the EOS utility to send files to the folder you just hot enabled.

That should do it.  I still have yet to figure out how to keep Capture One from opening when I hook any camera or card reader to my computer.

This is what I did;

1) Go to Applications>Image Capture>Preferences and select 'No application' from the 'Camera' section.
2) Close Image Capture
3) Start EOS utility
4) Start C1
5) Enable the hot folder

Also, Use OSX 10.5.6 - it's twice as fast for USB connected csmeras.

You may want to post future questions on C1 under 'Other RAW Converters' on the board. I posted a related topic there earlier regarding EOS utility/C1 sorting images by date/hotfolders.
