Adhesives for clear printer films
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:26:26 pm »

Anyone know of a CHEAP Optically clear sheet adhesive?   I'd like to instead of printing on metal with my Z3100 (I know others have done it with the pre-prepped metal, but don't want to after a bad experience with my 9180)

I found some 3M, but it's $1200 for a roll of 24"x200' and I don't need that much.  I'm lucky if I need 2' of it.  Something permanent I can print on HP film, then attach the film to metal then coat the film with laquer/poly/or laminate for additional protection from the customers.

Thanks

How about asking frame shops or fine art printers that do face mounting to acrylic? They have to use optically clear adhesive since it goes between the surface of the print and the acrylic that the print is viewed through. There are probably several around the counrty, but the only one I am familiar with is Decorative Edge in Phoenix. Their phone # is 602-957-1576.

Good luck with your project.

As far as I know, coda makes the least expensive transparent adhesive film.  If I remember correctly, the last time I ordered a roll it was in the $275 range for a 54" x 50' roll and if you need the roll cut into two smaller sizes they will do it for free.  Here is the link.

Another thing to consider is a gelatin transfer.  Here is a link to an instructional DVD that outlines the process:  If you look at the second video down, that is basically the process except you would use a piece of metal as the substrate.

Have you tried Lazertran Waterslide Paper for Inkjet printers? In sheets it's available up to 17 x 11" and in a roll of 2ft x 60ft. I've printed it on an Epson 3800 and as long as you don't lay down too much ink it prints well (but no extra-fine detail). Profiles well with SpyderPrint. Cheers, David
