FlexTT5 - new pocket wizards

I was just about to order a few more pocket wizards when I spotted the new product announcement, interesting stuff. I mainly use Elinchrom Ranger for location work but also Canon 580's if travelling light. The new pocket wizard solves a few problems and looks like a neat little product. Just waiting for someone to get their hands on one and test it out with a studio head and see what shutter speed they can sync up to.

On the Rob Galbraith link, Canon 1D mkiii was shot at 1/500 with a Dyna-Lite pack and strobe using the HyperSync option 1, still not sure how well the 2nd HyperSync mode works but it still looks interesting.

Fingers crossed this trigger works as it appears to - daylight/flash/wide aperture

I think these work with all flashes and have some nice information other brands don't have--plus they are cheap! I just ordred two receivers and one transmitter. I'd like to know your opinion once you read about them:

These are 69 each for the receivers and 59 for the transmitter I think.

Bargain prices, not sure they ship to Europe as of yet. I was on a shoot yesterday where I had to work at F16 at 1/250 ISO 100, I'm sure there is a catch somewhere regards how well the hypersync works...leaf shutter system?

I've cancelled my order.

Why and your youtube link is broken.
Does anybody know if the 1DsMII or MII will shoot at 400/th wired like was tested with the 1DMIII? Full clean frame with no edge prblem even at 400/th?
WHy would the 1DMIII sync no problem and the 5DII get some black framing? cannot be for the crop factor completely or can it?

Will have to try it tomorrow in the studio.

Wired I am assuming the mean with a sync cord.

I don't care about the high speed sync, but the mini is a great upgrade for just walking around with the camera looking for the next shot in between interior strobe lit setups vs. the Plus II.

I got the Alien Bees remotes. They're well built, auto off, auto on, set and forget. Batteries last two years under constant use. I'm really happy with them.

Hi Snook,
From what I gather it is the variation of the shutter design which leads to black framing more so in some camera then others, the 1DMiii is not a full frame sensor so it is easier to get full coverage of the sensor.
I can't wait to try one of the new wizards, I need another one anyway and the new ones work with the old

Keith

"Generally speaking the Hypersync feature can be utilised with strobes - results will vary depending on the strobe and camera combination. The PlusII can  be used as a receiver."

I bought 1 mini and two flextt5's...

they have several issues! the lastest firmware makes things a lot better, but I my gripe is the hypersync...

it just doesnt seem to deliver as promised and i was looking forward to 1/400th xsync on my 5Dmk2!!!

I have a TT1 and five TT5 units. I think the Hypersync speeds depend on the camera body. They do reliably trigger all of my strobes at 1/400 with a 1D2 body in Hypersync mode.

(For those who haven't seen these, the Hypersync mode triggers the flash slightly before the shutter opens, allowing full power flash at slightly faster sync speeds. This is not the same as high-speed focal plane sync mode, though the new PWs will do that, too.)
