PS4 random printing dark
« on: February 11, 2009, 01:21:10 pm »

Hi, I hope someone can shed light on a PS4 printing problem that is driving me crazy!

Since getting PS4, I have configured the soft proofing and print settings identically to what I use in PS3. Images print fine from PS3 on my Epson 7800.

When I print using PS4: the FIRST print always comes our very dark. Subsequent prints look normal (not identical to PS3, but close). Then every once and a while another dark print happens; it seems kind of random.

Does anyone have ideas what might be causing this, or how to try and troubleshoot it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

What OS? What printer?  What printer driver?

Personally I see no difference at all in prints from CS3 to CS4 as long as Photoshop is managing colors (using OS X).

When you say "subsequent prints" do you mean of the same image (as the 1st print) or different images? Does the same image sometimes print dark and sometimes OK?

I'm printing under OS 10.5.6 using an Epson 7800 (latest driver).

By subsequent prints I mean of the same image file (without reopening the file at another time).

You might want to look at how your default printer is set. Last Printer Used, or is it specifically set for the 7600. I for one can not set the default printer with Print & Fax preference pane. I have to use the CUPS interface to set the default printer.

I feel Peter's pain!

We are using WinXP and CS4 and get dark prints on three different printers.

I saw an posting from an Adobe source and sent this E-Mail:

Photoshop CS4 prints way too dark.  We are spending too much time reprinting.

HP xw4600 Workstations (4 identical) Intel Core2 Duo E6850 @3.00GHz, 2.98 GB Ram

Windows XP Prof, VER. 2002, SP3

NVIDIA Quadro FX1700, 512MB Driver ver. 6.14.11.7846, driver date 11/5/2008, LCD Display HP 112245W

Photoshop CS4 Extended, ver. 11.0.1

CM suite:
Eye-One match/Eye-One Pro, Set to monthly updating, last 3/23/09 - Easy/native

I have tested printing to our Noritsu dDP-621, Epson 7600 & Kodak ML500 - all of them print too dark from CS4.

Some of the images I tested we had printed previously from CS3 & CS2.

Another App, Qimage Pro, that we use to print 4x6s & 5x7s in batch mode, does NOT print dark.

PS – Before you ask, the only update I have found for the video driver from NVIDIA says it solves a problem in a CAD program.

Maybe I'll get a reply, cvt

Peter, have you been able to find an solution for your printing problems?   I struggle with the same problem. All my settings are correct, calibrated monitor, paper profiles etc, etc. and my prints come out too dark.
I am printing using Photoshop CS4 butt had the same problem with Photoshop CS3.
My computer is a Mac Pro with Tiger 10.4.11 operating system.
Please let me know what you learned.
Sincerely.
