I read the Antarctica story about camera failures. I'm not surprised that the a900 had no problems in the rain.
I had one on loan from Sony Canada for six months (while writing the Magic Lantern Guide about it) and I never had a problem in rain or snow. When using the Carl Zeiss lenses (also well sealed against moisture.)
The a900 is a well-constructed camera.
....Its construction features rugged, lightweight magnesium alloy with moisture-resistant, rubber seals for buttons and dials, an anti-static coating to prevent dust adherence to the imager, and a high-endurance shutter rated for more than 100,000 release cycles. ....
