Sony A900 DR
« on: February 09, 2009, 02:01:49 pm »

I was just re-reading Michael's two reports on the A900. In his initial review he stated, "ISO 100 is similarly not that useful either. There's no noise advantage to using it, and dynamic range is seriously reduced." In the one month on followup he states, "It ( ISO100 ) lowers noise from a Noise Ninja reading of 11 down to 9. Additionally a DXO Mark graph is shown that shows DR at ISO 100 is slightly greater than
ISO 200. Although the greater dynamic range, comes at the expense of reduced DR in the highlights, with increased DR in the shadows.
Why was your initial impression that ISO 100 crushed the DR, and that there was no reduction in noise?
One last note for those in the US interested in the A900. In the first report Michael stated that the A900 couldn't be shipped from Canada to the US. It's true that some dealers won't, but some will. I bought an A900 from Simon's camera's in Montreal, and they gladly shipped  it to Hawaii. Cost: $2200 USD shipped. Such a deal!
