Monitor calibration woes
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:22:49 pm »

Perhaps people with more experience with monitor calibration can help here and thanks in advance for those that respond..

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with a 17th in glossy screen.  I am using i1 display from xrite.  After calibration, colors are correct but the screen is very pixelated and the gradations are not smooth even though the screen is set in the max color quality.  The graphics card is a discrete NVidia with 128MB of memory.
Also, I set the target gamma to 2.2 but I end up always with a gamma of 2.3.  I am not sure what is going on, so I need your help.  Thanks.

It sounds like you've calibrated to a non-native white point - is this the case?

At the beginning of the cal process, you get to choose your targets - White temp, luminance and gamma.  What did you set for white temp?  And what is your luminance?

I always get .1 error in gamma on my laptop too - I don't know why, I'll be interested to hear what others say.

Yes I calibrated for 6500k and 110 luminance. The luminance recommendation was for 90 but I found it a bit too dim
Thatnk so much

Try native white point.

Hmmm did seem to make a diffference. I had initially calibrated the screed with an old spyder;  that meshed it up. Then I bought the eye one. Eventhough it fixed the colors it did not do anything to the pixelation.
