Problem with Canon Lens
« on: January 27, 2009, 05:49:26 pm »

I have been using the Canon 17-85 mm IS lens on a 30D for about three years.  Two weeks ago the camera seemed to be having a problem with autofocus in finding a focus point.  I was using it outdoors in about 20 degree weather for about 30 minutes.  I tried my other lenses on the same camera and they worked fine, so the issue appears to be in the lens.  When I push the shutter down, the lens moves in and out trying to focus but fails to do so.  Anyone else have a similar problem?  I am assuming this is in the electronics in the lens.  Solutions?  (Apart from buying a better lens, that is.)  Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you try cleaning the contacts?

Have you tried another lens on your camera to isolate the problem to your lens?
If it is your lens (or camera) send it to a Canon repair center.
