Based on what you say it sounds as if your custom profile didn't load properly, or you had settings in place either in Photoshop or the Epson driver which interfered with its functionality. I would suggest double checking that the profile is correctly installed, that colour management is turned off in the Epson driver, that the profile is identified in the Photoshop Print control window (if you are using CS3) and that in the same dialogue Document (not Proof) and Photoshop Manages Colors are selected. These are the usual culprits for the kind of problem you mention.
