If you used a camera with the UV and IR filters removed, you could get even more stunning results.
Indeed, I did use a 20D with the UV/IR Blocker removed. Human vision (and unmodded cameras) record roughly from 4000A to 6500A. The Sun's spectrum and that of Betelgeuse do extend into the near IR, up to around 9500A. The UV side is much more difficult to tackle since normal glass goes quite opaque at wavelengths shorter than visible, say, 4000A. Still, the Sun's spectrum and that of Sirius go slightly shorter, say, 3800A. I'd probably need one of those special, super-priced Nikon lenses to go even a little bit into deeper UV. But then the camera's sensor is not very sensitive there either
