I really enjoyed the read.  I like your holistic approach that puts the whole photographic experience in context.  The internet is full of pixel-heads who argue incessantly about how one camera is better at a microscopic detail than a near-identical one from another manufacturer.  I love that Leica steers clear of that by offering a completely different approach.  I have used film Leicas, particularly for weddings and appreciated the quiet shutters and lovely lenses.

My happiest time in photography was when I carried around a Canon FTb with only 28mm and 100mm lenses (sometimes a 50mm too).  Now I use a "pro" quality DSLR with zoom lenses and, sure, the results can be spectacular but it's all got very clinical.  I recently bought a Contax mount manual focus Zeiss Planar 50mm lens and it almost never leaves the camera body, even though it is actually not as good as some would expect (purple fringing is shocking).  I have to think about composition, exposure and depth of field again and it does make for considered photography.  The M8 would have that as a standard feature!  Nice.

I have the CV 15. It's a pretty good lens for the money. It's almost a given you must use the UV/IR filter on it. I put some tape on a 39 filter and it works fine, but there are other fancier, pricey fixes for this.

I use one of their 25mm lenses on my IIIf sometimes, and I like it a great deal. I was just curious if the really wide ones behaved strangely with the M8's relatively unusual sensor.

I suppose you might be able to paint the lensmount to mimic the digital encoding of the newer Leica lenses, in hopes of getting the auto processing pipeleine to reduce vigneting and the like. But it's not like Leica makes anything quite that wide anyway, so it probably wouldn't be worth it.
