Z3100ps GP driver confusion
« on: October 16, 2008, 02:28:09 pm »

I recently upgraded the firmware in my Z3100ps GP 24" printer, running WinXP Pro.  I have been printing from Qimage, and occasionally from CS3, from 16bit files in the Prophoto RGB space, and getting fine results.  I have been using what I have assumed was the "raster" driver.

After upgrading the firmware I downloaded  and installed the driver described on the HP website as the raster driver, which was HP Designjet Z3100ps Photoseries PCL3.exe, v 61.73.361.41 (21 May 2008).  I was surprised when my printer showed up with PCL3 added to the name, and the set of choices under the advanced tab included several features new to me.  Is it possible that this is NOT the raster driver?

Did I install the wrong driver?

If it says PCL3, it's the raster driver.

That's what I had believed, but the Advanced tab on the driver had all of the choices for the PS driver and not some of those for the raster driver.  Finally, after smacking my forehead, I de-installed all of the HPZ3100 printers, drivers and software from both of my computers on the network and reinstalled from the raster driver.

All is well in "user-friendly" territory now.
