C1 4.5.1 pro wishlist
« on: October 16, 2008, 01:21:50 pm »

After my first day checking out 4.5 pro, all in all I have to say I like it, but I feel there are some things from 3.7 missing or to be improved.
This is for the list guys and maybe Phase will listen.
So please don't spam this thread with moaning, there is no time to waste and nobody wants to read all those rants.

Off we go:
1. Curves and levels really need the individual RGB channels back, that was so pro in 3.7
2. Arrow keys for adjustments again, please
3. when creating a new session, make it an option for the session name also being the capture name
4. let me turn off sharpening, moiree and noise reduction with one click in those tool boxes
5. let me turn off/on every tool box with one click, lightroom style

that's it for now
thanks,
martin

Excellent start to the list. Those are all valid things that could be improved.

My addition: Modifying Defaults per camera or universally.

Mine would be when using lenses that need lens correction . Say CA, Purple fringing and such have a master switch that does it always on/ off in the preferences. This way when it sees a mamiya 35mm it just makes the correction without the user doing it. I would just like to keep it on and make corrections but also off when i want to do it on a individual shot basis. I know I can copy those settings and copy to all but you may have used other lenses in there. Hope that made sense. LOL

Yes.

main points:
- user selectable cache location for the preview files (.cop files)

- turn on/off sharpening
- separate focus window as in V3x (crop at 100%)
- RGB chanels
- brighter interface (user selectable)
- profiles should stick
- user selectable monitor profile
- keyboard shortcut to hide tools and browser in one step (F9 in V3x)
- keyboard shortcuts for color tagging

Separate focus window is already there. Open the window "Viewer" and set it to 100% (using the hand tool you can double click to jump to 100%, or you can just zoom in stepwise). Resize the window smaller if you want faster feedback. Right click on it for a thumbnail of the whole image for easy intra-image navigation.

User selectable monitor profile? You select the profile for your monitor in the OS and you can select any proof profile in C1 4.5 Pro. Maybe I misunderstand this request.

Keyboard shortcuts Apple B and Apple T are plenty fast enough to remove both tools and browser.

You can

RGB channels - would be nice.

That's not what I mean! If I do it like that and then want to adjust, say, tonal curve, the viewer window disappears behing the main window. It does not stay on top! So it's useless except for dual monitor.

Is Capture One able to match the right colors if you move the viewer to a second display without restarting the software? If so... we don't need it. If not... I will need it!

Two shortcuts based on two keys instead of one (F9). Very fast indeed. I think something like "full view" is basic in every imaging software. Even Irfan View can do that (freeware).

...okay, but you're talking about a marginal fraction of a second compared to a smaller marginal fraction of a second.

I believe it does; however, I'll have to check when I'm not on my computer in an airport in Atlanta :-).

I've never thought about this, but you're completely right. One easy solution would be to allow an "always on top" for the floating viewer. This way we maintain all of the flexibility that is added from the 3.X implementation but add this workflow option (inspection during adjustment on a single monitor). That's a great idea!

yes, you are right. Basically it works and the one-key shortcut would just be handier.

I bet it does not :-)
Sole Software is Photoshop. Even other Adobe applications (Acrobat, Indesign ...) can not do it.
It's one of the very useful things in V3 (even LE) that were canceled.

Let's unite and go to Denmark. I am talking about this up from the first beta version. And support told me that it will be there in Pro. But obviously they did not understand what I (and others) mean... and did not understand what they had in V3.
It's that simple: see the entire image in the viewer for composition and at the same time a small window to check focus (while tethered) and check details while adjusting the image.

So please don't delete these three points from the list and let's return to the wishlist rather than discussing the list ;-)

You have the right point. I vote you to be one of the beta tester for Phase.
I got the same feeling.
No. 1-3 is a must.

I want to be able to change 4.5 to have different "themes", like South Park or Family Guy!

I can't seem to find the stitching tool to use with the flex adapter anywhere. There was a knowledge base article about a year and a half ago saying that the improved stitching tool would be in Capture One Pro 4.

They say it will come back in one of the future releases. Hopefully in the next one.

Stitching will be re-introduced, but I do not have a solid time frame.

I think C1 could auto detect lenses that you always want to correct --like my Mamiya 35mm-- and do it as default as was mentioned here.

The floating focusing window would  probably be top in my humble list...

In version three, I have gotten really used to using the focusing window while shooting people, I or my assistant  just use the eyedropper to keep it on the subjects eyes. You can't do that yet in version 4. It is very awkward.  I am using it on some non critical jobs to try to get the hang of it. There are some nice new things, I just want the old things I relied on as well. Hopefully they will keep working on it. I really need the stitching at times as well.

Hi there,

Owing to severe Activation hassles / non stop crashes/etc/etc with C1-but that's another story --only just got around to downloading and trying the V4.whatever Pro.

Crashes???/fiddly Interface--where is the Lupe for us old timers to read the Type--sheeesh--it's awful.

Get back the dudes that did V3 --- tell them all is forgiven.

Sorry Phase you dropped the blue ball on this one(Not original)

and it landed on us Pro users feet.

2 out of 10

I really wish there was still a default to allow the "develops" folder to ALWAYS be inside the capture current image folder.  It's a small thing, but it used to be there and it's a drag having to set the output folder each time.

Oops, one more to add:  why can't Windows users create a custom workspace?  Move tabs around?  It's one of the best features of PS, et al, for us dual monitor users.

I did find a work-around, though:  I put the main CO window on my smaller, non-calabrated monitor, put the browser on the left and the tool pallette on the right and made them as wide as possible.  I then opened the viewer and maximised it on my main monitor.  Voila! Usable, dual monitor Capture One on Windows!!
