1ds mkII aspect ratio...
« on: October 07, 2008, 12:20:01 pm »

Hi guys,

The 1dsmkIII has 4:3 and 4:5 in camera 'aspect ratio' modes so that you can see the crop on screen with lines on the lcd, and tethered with dpp, if you know you will have to crop the image to that later on.

Does either the older 1dsmkII or the new 5dmkII have this feature?

Cheers.

I don't think that the Mark 2 had it. I would need to get my MK2 to be 100% sure, though. No idea about the 5D II.

Edit: On the MK3, crop lines are part of LiveView, which is not implemented on the previous models.
Edit 2: The user guide for MK2 has no references to crop linse & aspect ratio.

Thank you Francois,

I assumed that would be the case.

There are a few crop choices on 1Ds MK3, it then became cropped in the raw file, and I don't usually do it.  Plan it carefully, and Lightroom can crop the image in batch process.

I can confirm that mkII does NOT have this feature (I would have used it if it did)...

Just to make things clear (from the 1Ds Mk3, page 178), I added the bold emphasis:

During Live View shooting, vertical lines corresponding to the aspect ratio will
be displayed. You can thereby simulate framing for medium- and large-format
film sizes such as 6x6 cm, 6x4.5 cm, and 4x5 in. This aspect ratio information
will be appended automatically to the captured image. (The image will not
actually be saved to the memory card as a cropped image.)
When the image is
transferred to a personal computer and the Digital Photo Professional (provided
software) is used, the image will be displayed in the aspect ratio you specified.
0: Off                              4: Aspect ratio 6:7
1: Aspect ratio 6:6           5: Aspect ratio 10:12
2: Aspect ratio 3:4           6: Aspect ratio 5:7
3: Aspect ratio 4:5
