Sony A900 price leak?
« on: August 05, 2008, 09:18:47 pm »

For anyone interested, this website in France appears to have leaked the 24MP Sony A900 price.  The site indicates the A900 will be going for 2490 EUR, which is essentially the same price as the D700 in France.  Sony is known for being expensive in France, so, if this link is accurate, it looks like the A900 will be a tad under $3000 in the US, just like the D700.

They had something about a Canon 7D release as well... which I'm not going to hold my breath on. Sony have also stated they haven't decided on a naming scheme for the full frame camera in their future lineup. I wouldn't be suprised if the A900 isn't the spec'd camera we're all expecting.

Sony's A series DSLRs use the old Konica / Minolta lens mount.

I saw a prototype A900 (or mock-up) at the Sony stand at a recent photographic exhibition in Brisbane. The sales people at the stand were telling people that the completed camera would be exhibited at Photokina this year, would be 24mp and would be the first full frame 35mm with anti-shake sensor.

My main concerns are; will it have the auto ISO features of the Nikons, that I sorely miss on my Canon cameras, and will it have the sterling low noise capabilities of the Nikon full frames?

Also saw it there, and they gave me the same story.
If anybody could do it, Sony is definantly one of them... It certainly looks like an interesting camera though. I still think that it won't be spec'd as far as we'd expect... Though I hope I'm wrong.

EDIT: Just to add, since we're on the subject. Apparently the display they had on at Sony (At PMA Brisbane and others prior) is only allowed to be handled by one fellow at Sony, who flies to the events prior, with all the 'gear' in a pelican, and nobody else can touch it (from the Sony rep at the stand) even to move it. If there's a problem, they get the fellow out to adjust it.

Sony is expensive in France? Darling, all cameras are expensive in France, probably the most expensive place to buy cameras from.
