Image rescue problem

Images shot in raw on canon's 1ds mark III were apparently accidentally deleted in the camera on a lexar card.  I downloaded lexar's latest lexar 3 image rescue software.  It found the images and they get stored.  But they are now in TIF format and, worse, I can't open the thumbnails with photoshop 3 or photo mechanic w/o getting a message that photoshop does not recognize the TIF image compression file.  I can't get a response so far from Lexar's support group.  Any ideas?  The thumbnail data shows it at 72 ppm.

When you say they are "now in tif format" - did the software rename the files??  Assuming they were originally RAW (ie: cr2), have you tried renaming the files back?

Yes, it would have been part of the image rescue software, I presume.  I wouldn't think that it would have converted in the camera as part of the deletion process.  I have not tried to rename but will try renaming to a cr2 form this evening.

Renaming the files with a .cr2 suffix didn't work either.  When I try to open the renamed file with photoshop 3 I just get a message that it is not the right type of document.  

Has anyone sent a disk to someone with any success?  Am paranoid about sending it out of my custody but am running out of options.  Other software worth using?  Is it possible that the accidental deletion converted these somehow from cr2 to a TIF?

I would use DIY DataRecovery's software. They have free shareware you can use--though you may have to pay to retrieve the actual files once you've found them.

I do not see why ANY software would format your images into another extension or file type, though.

The images are now rescued by using Image Recall from flashfixers.com.  This program worked faster, was more intuitive, and rescued everthing in the original cr2 form.  I commend them to anyone.  There was a $35 or so charge for it but that was happily paid given the result.  

PS. I finally, three days after my request, got a response from Lexar's support group, which basically said here are the directions, try again.  Thanks for your thoughts and help.

Even better is photorescue [a href=\"http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/purchase.htm]http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/purchase.htm[/url]  Bad website but VERY good product...Just the use the Basic version under "Other Versions" it BLOWS away the free Lexar or San Disk ones.

Data Rescue 2

I've used this with success in the past. Besides it will retrieve files from darn near any device so if you have future issues with a back up hard drive or even your main drive/s you will already have software thats capable. Only complaint I have against it is it re-named my files ( not the extensions just the file names ) and i lost all the thumbnail icons so I had to open each file to see what it was.
