NEW EPSON PRINTERS QUESTION
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:11:35 am »

I have two Epson 4800's.  One dedicated to Matte black and one to Photo black.

I am thinking about getting a new Epson.  But I am not in a huge rush.  Any word on newer Epson 48XX series of printers in the pipeline?

I would prefer to wait and get one that can print both matte and photo through one machine with out major changing etc...

I am thinking about getting a 48XX and 78XX at the same time.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Although not about the 48xx series, there is a good article that Keith wrote here:

These look very appealing.....(and expensive!)

Hi

Curiously enough, Epson UK were still happy for me to have a 4880 for review ;-)

My suspicion is that it wont be until well into next year before we get a replacement available. Have a look at the 7900/9900 threads here to see that there is quite a difference in the basic printers between the 78/98 and 79/99 series.

The 'article' referred to is actually only a collection of snippets of info I've picked up - I'll not be able to do a proper comparison for a while yet :-(

If you are not in a rush then another 3 months to the Photokina isn't too long either. I guess one of the big 3 must have some news on a 17" model. Meanwhile only the Canon iPF5100 suits your needs in a pro printer.
