shooting fireworks

i'd like to get some advice on shooting fireworks.  i never seem to have any success.  i'm going to have a lot of oppertunities this summer and hope to shoot the 4th of july as well as the fireworks at niagara falls.

I thought my film fireworks were bad, but my digital expiremtnation has been even worse!

I've never done big fireworks.  In Minnesota they only allow fireworks that do not get off the ground.  (Much.  Unless you're a scofflaw.)  They have an amazing beauty, tho.  Little tendrils of this and that.  Think I'll try a few tomorrow.  This is an old 300D photo from a couple of years ago.

(These little guys are easy to shoot.  Fire a few.  Watch your histogram.  Shutter speeds will be pretty high.  Make sure not too much is burned out.  Fun.)

Try F16 on Bulb. Hold a black card over the lens between fireworks so you don't get any ambient light between explosions, which means you'll get less noise. Or don't worry about the noise. Just hold the bulb open and try to hit the action.
