Exposure Quitting and Other issues?
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:27:10 am »

Hi,

All week I have had the Exposure software quit during tethered shooting. I am using 6.0.1.

Also other random bugs seem to include it refusing to 'hide' or minimize  - a pain on a location laptop with a small screen when I want to export to other apps...

Any comments or suggestions anyone?

Cheers

Hi Murray,
is this shooting towards the Hy6 or Alpa?
Also, are you using the latest e-75 from Sinar?
The one I have to collect with the large viewer?
Cheers,
Willem.

On my fairly puny Mac I find that shooting more than 60 images into one folder slows things up

Maybe try a new folder every 50 images or so

My random bug is losing the ability to get the folder browsing window open

I also dont like the lack of a progress bar or suchlike to tell one that is dowloading from the camera

(Oh and no web contacts sheets)

I am aggressively deleting the extra images - but that folder issue is a good one to be aware of.

I am shooting with the Alpa - I did not go for the Hy6 in the end and am  currently off loading all my rollei lenses 40mm PQ, 60mmPQ, 90mm Macro PQS, and 150mmPQ (anyone??).

The Sinar Back is the  eMotion 75LV.

The Laptop is the current MacPro with 4 gig of ram - everything works fine.....

2 things:

A. The quitting gets worse through the day...by the end of the day the quitting occurs after every shot - and yes, we restart the computer between setups...

B. It quits when clicking onto other images in contact sheet, exporting, deleting - whenever something is 'asked' of the program...

Dear Murray,

it is hard to say anything about problems without any detailed information. To solve your issues it is the best way to contact the Sinar support with following information.

1. System Profil (that is important to have an idea what system you are working with)
2. eXposure log File (You find it under user/library/log)
3. eXposure Crash log File (you find it under user/library/log/CrashReporter)
4. Detailed description what you are doing before the systems crashes

I don't think that anyone of the other users can solve your problem here in the forum
Best regards
Michael

 Hi Goodi,

thanks for your reply,

I will lodge a crash report with Sinar...

I believe that this forum in particular is a great place to bring up issues and share information...It is far more immediate than any support facility and the results benefit all...

Cheers

Sam,

There actually is a progress bar for the import of files: as soon as you drag the files into a folder a new "Import" tab/window appears beside the "Export" tab. Open it and you shall see the progress bar for all the files imported, one by one and until they are all imported.

Best regards,
Thierry

Hi Murray

I did a couple of days intensive tethered shooting last week and encountered crashing. It  got worse after I started shifting palettes around, placing the contact sheet on a second monitor and minimising the controls and the Browser too get as big an image as possible.  I'm running leopard on a mac pro, so recovery from a crash doesn't take long, but after the shoot I found my file naming sequences all over the place. Even with the crashing I found it a big improvement over Captureshop. Quick to crop and export. The images pop up on the monitor a lot quicker, and its ability to zoom in to 100% relatively quickly is good. After zooming in it takes a moment to snap into a sharp image, I assume this is while the preview is being generated.

Goodi,
I was wondering if the speed of the time it takes to generate this sharp preview after zooming is affected by the video card or other hardware. I am running a standard Mac pro quad duo 2.8 and around 6 gig of ram. Is it any benefit having a better than standard video card?

regards

David

David, It's funny you mention the video card -

Goodi (and I have sent the logs to Sinar), my instinct was that the video card has something to do with the crashing? When the program was asked to display different panes it did seem to crash??
