Sandisk Extreme Ducati CF Card
« on: June 14, 2008, 10:17:13 am »

Has anyone out there ever had any experiences with the Sandisk Extreme Ducati line of CF Cards? If yes, what do you think of them?Would you highly recommend them?Would it be worth getting a couple of the Sandisk Extreme Ducatis over the Sandisk Extreme III or Extreme IV CF Cards if I were using a Canon 40D and I shoot a lot of Action Sports where speed is important?
Thanks.

When shopping for the III's I just bought I think I saw that B&H has discontinued them.  I'm not sure what that's about.

I just got back from a 3 day shoot at Mount Buffalo in Australia - shooting in conditions ranging from 0 to -5 degrees celsius with a Canon 1DS MKIII and SanDisk Ducat Extreme Edition CF cards.

I was snowed on [got lost in a blizzard actually], rained on, sleeted on, nearly blown away one day and even had a little sunshine. My camera gear was wet, freezing and put seriously to the test.

The Camera performed flawlessly - and despite my concerns I shot the entire 3 days on 1 battery and never once had to warm it. Phenomenal performance.

Now to answer your question: My CF cards didnt miss a beat. I shot around 300 frames a day and swapped cards in the field - no problem whatsoever. Now I didnt use them for their write speeds, but their reliability is unquestionable in my experience.

Hope this helps.

If you look at the specs and pricing for the Extreme IV vs. Ducati, the Extreme IV is better performance/price.  The Ducati is only marginally faster.  However, the environmental specs may be better for the Ducati; not sure about that.

I use Extreme 8 GB Extreme III's (latest version) and 8 GB Extreme IV's in the 1Ds3.  I can't tell a difference.  My older Extreme III 16 GB seems the same too.  From what I've read elsewhere, most people see the benefit on the reader side with UDMA compatible reader.

I bought a 8Gb extremeIII ducatie version and use it together with a Canon 40D. I also have the same card but the older version and there is no difference in speed when using it in the camera.  The only noticable difference is when downloading the images to my imagetank, the ducati was a bit faster.
