Workflow for LR web galleries?
« on: May 28, 2008, 10:04:40 pm »

Dear all,

The LR web galleries is cool, but it just doen't seem to fit my workflow.

Even when using LR as a raw converter, 90% of my images require many additional local retouching in PS CS3.

I see little value in re-importing these re-touched images into LR, and the web gallery fonctionality of LR therefore appears to be of little use since I cannot apply it easily to my final images (and those are of course those I would want to publish to the web).

It would make a lot more sense to be able to launch it from Bridge.

Any comments?

Regards,
Bernard

You can make galleries from Bridge via PS from any images you select in Bridge via Tools/Photoshop/Web Photo Gallery.

If you want to use the LR web Galleries, then yes, you have to do so with images already imported into LR.
So you can easily process images in PS and save in a folder which can be imported and used by LR along with any other images in LR. One of LR's potential strengths is it's DAM function, so it would make sense to always import all your images. Besides if you export from LR to PS and save tweaked PSD, it should already be in LR so no reimporting needed.

It sounds to me like there's not a lot of point in you using LR if that's the way you work; you might as well just use Bridge/ACR/PS.

The whole idea of LR is that you let it manage your images in a DAM way, and that you use it to manage to the hand off to PS - right click, open in CS3, save, then LR picks up the new image.

ACR has the same conversion options as LR, so stick with that.
