Phase One back and Mamiya 645/waist level

I looked on the Phase one site, but wanted to ask here just to make sure.  Is there a way to mount a Phase one back to the older Mamiya M645 body, with the waist level finder?

If I remember correctly you could connect a few of the early backs with a cable and and adapter, but not the new P-series.

Paul may I ask why you would want that?
If you want waist level you probably much better off getting an RZ? Buying a back that is locked into that system would not be such a good thing to do.. especially for resale!
Lens and body's are pretty cheap these days to lock your self into that system.
When I was thinking the same thing several years back.. My ProTL system was available by the Hassleblad backs... But not Phase one that I know of.. again that was several years ago..
Good luck but was wondering why you would want something like that?

I wanted to get a waist level finder body.  I like the RZ but with it you have to use all the different lenses, RZ.   Or can a 645 manual focus lens mount to the RZ?

Manual Focus Lens for the 645 are practically being given away these days..
I have a ton in my storage in the studio.. Even have all the leaf shutter lens...:+}
Not worth anything really.
Why invest in something that is soo old to use with such newer technology?
To each his own but sounds like a pretty lose lose situation..
Good luck trying to resell it.
You can pick a 645AFDII system for rather cheap if you shop around and the lens are not too bad either.
If you want WLF finder I think the RZ is the only way to go.
For Mamiya that is.

Paul,

You need at least a Mamiya 645 AFD to connect a P or P+ Phase One back.  Sorry about that.
You could get a RZ Pro IID body and adapter plate.  Since that body/ adapter plate is M645 mount, you could float between the two.

I think hasselblad still makes a mount for the 645 pro, and it wouldnt be loss if you needed to sell as they use interchanging mounts.

There are options for Hasselblad - as Kyle mentioned - and Sinar also. The 22MP Sinar 54MC is a very nice option for someone who can handle shooting tethered only, for $11,000 new with a 3 year warranty.

The CF series Hasselblad digital backs also will go on the Mamiya Pro. The CF-22 in particular is a very good value, as these units now have the new 2.5" TFT screen and will work with Hasselblad's nice new Phocus software. You can pick up a CF-22 for $19,995, and if you pick up any old Hasselblad V body (as low as $199 at KEH) you can use that as a trade-in and get $3,000 off, so you wind up with a portable 22MP digital back with a nice quality LCD screen for around $17,000 brand new.

Both these digital backs employ user changeable camera adapter kits, and can go on just about any medium format camera with no limitations towards simultaneously going on any other mf camera.

When I need it, I use my Sinarback with a very old Mamiya 645 Pro. Without any problem. But it represent about 3% of my photographic work. It work very good, and maybe beter than with my RZ.

But 95% are made with the Sinarcam2 on a P2, with Sinaron Digital lenses. And that's realy  beter !

The versatility of the Sinar backs is a plus.
