Changing my lens Lineup
« on: February 04, 2008, 09:43:59 am »

Hello,

So I have a few questions about changing some of my gear and perhaps some of you can help me.

Right now I won the following mix: - keep/sell/not sure ( and in here you find the reason)

Camera at the moment is a 1Ds Mark3
--------------------------------------------------------

Leica R 19mm  - not sure ( Really Fantastic lens, just perhaps to close to my Zeiss)

CZ T 21mm - keep (I think you don't have to talk about this lens it is just amazing)

Leica R 28mm - keep ( Best 28 I have ever seen and used )

Canon TSE 24mm - keep (there is no real alternative or is there ? )

Canon 50 1.4 - sell (never really liked that lens)

Canon 50 1.2 - sell (Never used it as much i thought I would and I don't like its performence)

Canon 100 2.8 Macro - keep/not sure (sharp lens, even really nice for portraits)

Canon 500 F4 - keep ( very nice lens nothing bad about it. OK a little heavy ;-) )

Canon 24-105 f4 - sell ( IS is nice but the rest of the lens is kinda crap. It was nice on the mark2 but it is falling apart on the mark3)

Canon 70-200 f4 IS - keep ( fast, light sharp )

Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS - sell ( I kept it after getting my f4, because I thought I would use it for wildlife, but in the end I did not use it at all over the last 8 months.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now which range do I want to get ? I'm shooting a lot of landscapes, wildlife and city life images.

So here is what I was thinking of:

14-16mm I was considering the folloing choices:

Leica Super-Elmarit-R 15mm F2.8
Leica Super-Elmar-R 15mm F3.5
Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm F3.5

Now I would like to replace my 24-105 with something in the range of 35-70
So I have two options:

Going with two primes 35 and 50 OR getting a zoom

Now I was thinking of these three zooms:

The LEICA VARIO-ELMAR-R 1:4/35-70 mm
or
The Zeiss Contax 35-70mm f3.4
or
LEICA VARIO-ELMARIT-R 1:2,8-4,5/28-90 mm ASPH

I heared good things about both lenses, but never have seen a review against each other or somebody who owned both ? What do you think?

Now the last thing I was thinking of getting a fast 50 and 80/100/130 prime something around 2.0. Any ideas what is good ? I don't care if it auto or manual focus because I'm quite used to both.

The last question I would have is what would you get as an additional long lens ?

I'm talking about around 300.
Canon 300 2.8 ( heavy ? )
Canon 300 4 ( as good as the 2.8 ? )
Or the leica 280 F4 ( how good is it really ? )

Thanks a lot for your help and input

Christopher
