Nikkor lenses, how to differentiate?

Hi everyone,

I mostly shoot Canon, wich has a pretty strict division in it's pro and semi-pro lens line-up, in price as well as naming and color-coding.
The most lenses I would consider are similar in price between Canon L and Nikkor.

I'm just wondering, is there any way to differentiate between Nikkor glass besides the price-tag?
